Creativity Theories and Perspectives

Learning in art Early childhood experiences through art can be described as a representation of the theory offered by Piaget according to which active exploration and discovery by children through interaction with the environment is the most effective. The sociocultural theory of Vygotsky emphasizes the importance of group art work, where group mural painting or group collage-making allow learning with and through social interaction and creation of shared meaning with peers. Multiple intelligences theory presented by Gardner indicates the visual-spatial intelligence development that is facilitated by use of art where children are supposed to comprehend and manipulate shapes, colours and space through certain tasks such as block building or drawing. The theory of divergent thinking developed by Torrance can be observed in children who make original images and experiment on the ways of materials usage. Also, art enables brain development as it uses both brain parts, which facilitates a whole brain and creative mentality and thought (Howard & Mayesky, 2022).
