Drama and puppetry

Both drama and puppetry provide children with interesting and practical means of presentation of thoughts, feelings and ideas. Even when they are dressing up as another character, playing the role in some story or even using puppets to communicate, children are creating language, expressing their imaginations and gaining confidence. The problem is that it is through drama that they are able to check on the real life situations and learn to look at people and their roles. Puppetry, especially, can be an excellent device to use with a child who is shy or still not gaining their voice, as it allows a child to be heard through play. These experiences nurture emotional development, development of social relationships and development of flexible thinking and so they form good elements in a creative early learning context.
